The Resurgent Leader – Part 3

It is important to understand the principle of resurgence because it gives us the KNOWLEDGE of what needs to done and when. For example, the seasons are like the waves in terms of their endless coming and going. When we know the seasons then we can work and dress appropriately, much like ants do.

Proverbs 30:25 (BBE)The ants are a people not strong, but they put by a store of food in the summer;’

Ants and farmers do different activities in summer and winter. As leaders, there will be different seasons in the life of the church. These are created by such annual cycles as work holidays, school holidays and the great Christian festivals of Christmas and Easter. If we build wisely we can use all of these times to maximum benefit.

For example, one pastor I know would always go on holiday in December because the sight of the empty church (when everyone else was away on holiday) would get him down badly. When the members come back in January, refreshed from the holiday, with much energy it is important to have one’s most intense evangelism or service programs.

On the other hand, because of the expenses of Christmas and of the start of the school year January to March are not an ideal time to try to take big offerings for church projects. The above knowledge helps us know when we expect the best availability, giving, service, and evangelism in the church … in other words when we can plan to surge forward.

Watch your frustration levels reduce as you learn the timing of the best planting and reaping seasons for your church and the people you lead.

Galatians 4:4 (ESV)But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,’

Understanding the principle of resurgence improves your FERTILITY and PRODUCTIVITY.

Whereas human males are fertile in and out of season, human females are seasonal in their ability to conceive, insofar as there are only a few days a month when they can be impregnated. If a couple is unaware of these cycles they will find it much harder for the woman to conceive.

The Roman Catholics, who are against the use of contraceptives, advise couples to use this cycle as a method of family planning, i.e. to avoid getting babies by not being sexually active during the fertile days. Thus, in the same way, that a couple that is aware of the resurgence principle in fertility is more likely to conceive and have children when pastors are aware of when Christians are most fruitful then that pastor can grow their church more.

For example, leaders and pastors need to make the most of the ‘first love’ (Revelation 2:4) of new believers. On the other hand, pastors can become disheartened if they expect much from those in the ‘cold love’ phase (Matthew 24:12).

If most of our evangelism is directed at older people we will experience much frustration whereas Scripture and research show us that young people are much more open and responsive.

Matthew 19:14 (NIV) Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Whereas regarding adults …

Mark 4:19 (NIV) ‘… the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.’

I declare that as we learn to discern what seed to sow, when and where then we are going to begin to ‘BEAR MUCH FRUIT THAT LASTS.’ (John 15: 8,16)
